Smovengo is the operator of Vélib-Métropole, the self-service bicycle hire scheme for the city of Paris and more than 65 of its communes.
900,000 people use Vélib’, including over 470,000 annual subscribers, equivalent to 10 times the capacity of the Stade de France. Paris ranks ahead of Taipei and New York – which has a larger fleet but fewer trips and users.
500 French employees, experts in cycling and logistics, maintain and regulate one of the world’s largest bicycle station systems. 30 experts are dedicated exclusively to reconditioning parts, manufacturing wheels and assembling bicycles. In high season, over 10,000 bikes are repaired every week in Smovengo’s workshops in the Paris region.
As a key partner in sustainable mobility, Smovengo is actively committed to solidarity and sustainable development, through:
Every year, Smovengo recycles 170,000 spare parts, produces 2,500 bicycle wheels a week from new and reused components, and manufactures more than 2,000 bicycles in France from new and old spare parts.
During maintenance operations, all damaged parts are systematically removed and either reconditioned for a second life or recycled. This process is carried out entirely in-house.
INDIGO implements diverse solutions to facilitate the development of soft mobility.
