Design and operation

Infrastructure design, construction and management: INDIGO takes action to reduce its environmental footprint.

Preference for natural solutions in design, responsible purchasing policy, reduced energy consumption… Faced with the challenges of climate change, INDIGO is committed to limiting the environmental impact of the design, construction, renovation and operation of its infrastructure.

Designing and building to reduce our footprint

From the outset of the design phase, INDIGO’s technical and development teams are committed to minimizing the use of resources, and adopt a low-tech approach. They design infrastructure as closely as possible to requirements, incorporating simple, efficient solutions such as widely ventilated car parks to minimize the use of mechanical ventilation, and the use of materials that reduce the ecological footprint of construction: low-carbon concrete, metal structures, factory prefabrication, etc.

Environment and biodiversity

Before building a new car park, INDIGO obtains the necessary planning permission and complies with any environmental requirements (impact study, water law, making ground permeable again, renewable energies, etc.). A pollution analysis audit of the land to be excavated is systematically carried out.

We also take into account the preservation of flora and fauna. Project managers in the technical and legal departments have been trained in biodiversity issues. Planting trees and shrubs, respecting nesting periods and protected species, setting up beehives… INDIGO finds solutions to preserve the ecosystem according to the configuration of the site.

Natural solutions

INDIGO’s Technical and Major Projects Department and its in-house design office integrate environmental criteria such as daylighting, landscaping, greening, soil permeability and biodiversity preservation right from the design phase.
Greening roofs, facades and surrounding areas contributes to thermal regulation, improves air quality and protects the soil. In addition, openings to the exterior, such as skylights and wide-open facades, optimize natural lighting and ventilation without recourse to mechanization, and are systematically favored where architecture permits. A perfect example of eco-design is the Ars-Belcier car park in Bordeaux, France, which offsets part of its greenhouse gas emissions with a green roof and rainwater recovery system.

Managing our car parks sustainably

Our energy consumption – mainly electricity – is mainly due to the lighting of our car parks. Installation of low-energy lighting, LED lighting, presence detectors, direct monitoring of consumption by operating staff… INDIGO has implemented a series of measures to minimize electricity consumption without compromising the user experience.

Part of our electricity consumption is also generated from renewable energies (over 20% by the end of 2023) – certified through guarantees of origin. At the design stage, INDIGO also considers the technical feasibility of installing shading systems or photovoltaic panels, depending on the type of infrastructure.

Shared values

Bouygues Bâtiment Ouvrages Publics, VINCI Construction, Briand, Gagne Park… We partner with leading developers who share our values. Their CSR policies are in line with our selection criteria. The objective? Limiting the impact of our activities on the environment throughout the value chain: preserving the ecosystem, using less polluting materials, managing and reusing waste, saving resources and limiting nuisance…

A responsible purchasing policy

For many years, INDIGO has established fair, profitable and responsible relationships with its suppliers and service providers. All are committed to respecting our responsible purchasing charter, which includes business ethics, respect for the environment and compliance with international conventions on labor law and human rights. Reviewed in 2021, it aims to embed our approach to sustainable development in the CSR policies of our suppliers and the measurement of the achievement of these CSR criteria, with the ambition of co-constructing ever more effective and responsible solutions, while reducing our carbon footprint.

Customer footprint

In addition to reducing its own emissions, INDIGO also works to reduce the carbon footprint of car park users. Dynamic guidance systems to limit passage in congested areas, license plate recognition to speed up passage at car park entrances and exits… We integrate technologies to limit congestion and optimize user journeys.

As part of this dynamic, our parking facilities are opening up to low-carbon mobility. We are deploying recharging stations for electric vehicles and providing dedicated, closed areas for bicycles (Cyclopark).
